FAQ / Finding your scene
Hongdae, Itaewon or Gangnam? Find your scene
Choose an area by the music, setting and kind of evening you want—not just a famous name.

Which neighbourhood should I choose?
Hongdae suits a lively, varied night; Itaewon offers an international mix of bars and music rooms; Gangnam and Apgujeong include many table-led clubs and lounges.
Hongdae and the neighbouring Sangsu and Hapjeong areas mix hip-hop rooms, electronic music, live bands and casual bars. You can plan around one DJ line-up or move between different kinds of venue.
Itaewon is useful if you want bars, lounges and electronic music within the same evening. Gangnam, Sinsa, Cheongdam and Apgujeong offer a different mix, including dressier lounges and bottle-service nights. Budgets and door policies still vary within each area.
Beyond those areas, Seongsu has cocktail and listening-bar options. Busan’s Seomyeon is another nightlife hub, with venues around Haeundae and Gwangalli as well. Use Places to compare individual rooms and confirm the current programme.
Where will I hear the music I like?
Choose the event as well as the venue. The same room can sound very different with a different promoter or guest DJ.
For electronic music, look at the announced line-ups at places such as Faust, vurt., MODECi and Cakeshop. For hip-hop and open-format nights, the briefing points to Hongdae rooms including B1 and NB2. These are starting points for checking a current programme, not promises about every night.
A K-pop hit may appear in a mixed set, but a general nightclub is not necessarily a K-pop night. Look for an explicitly advertised event if that is your priority. Latin parties and live-band nights also have their own calendars: examples in the briefing include La Bamba and Club FF.
Check the artist links, recent programme and official social accounts before choosing. Music tags help narrow the list but cannot replace the line-up for your date.
Where can I find LGBTQ+ nightlife?
Itaewon, Jongno 3-ga and Hongdae are useful starting points, with different communities and event formats in each.
The briefing highlights Itaewon’s Usadan-ro area and Jongno 3-ga for gay nightlife, and Hongdae for lesbian and WLW spaces. Individual bars and parties set their own audience, entry and photography policies.
Read the organiser’s current description and message ahead if anything is unclear. Respect community-specific spaces, consent and rules on taking photographs. Avoid assuming that someone’s identity, language or appearance determines whether they belong in a venue.
